With its incomparable shimmer, depth and color, dichroic glass is also celebrated in many of our creations. Dichroic glass is created by multiple, ultra-thin layers of different metals and metal oxides, including titanium, chromium and magnesium, which are vaporised in a vacuum chamber. The vapour then condenses on the surface of the glass in the form of a crystal structure lending to the array of beautiful colors that are reflected in the light. To gaze upon the exquisite result is truly a sight to behold.
Combining aspects of flameworking and glassblowing techniques, our process starts by melting glass on a torch heated to 3000° f. The glass is then manipulated in the flame with various hand tools by highly skilled craftsman. Using the natural force of gravity, the glass is shaped until the desired form is created. Colored glass cane, murrine, frit and other materials are utilized to complement and enhance the design. When complete, the pieces are kiln annealed, which increases the strength and durability to last for a lifetime of enjoyment.
